Treatment Procedures in an Advanced Gum Disease

Filed under: Dental, Health, News and Events — rayspotts @ 2:57 pm

When the infection reaches below the gum line and gum disease is in advanced state, it is necessary to undergo more complex procedures like pocket reduction, regeneration, soft tissue graft, and application of antimicrobial agents. Pocket reduction method is a sweeping of pockets that gaps between gums and bone structure. These pockets were formed out of the degeneration of gum-bone attachment due to toxins produced by anaerobic bacteria. When bone structure has greatly destroyed by these anaerobic bacteria, gingival tissue will eventually collapse due to support failure. Regeneration is the only way to embed additional bone structure and injection of tissue-producing proteins. When gingival tissue and gums decline, the root of the tooth becomes visible. In soft tissue graft, this root will be covered back by gum tissue. This gum tissue comes from any part of the mouth. It will also necessary to apply antimicrobial agents to reverse the damage of gum disease. Brushing and flossing will be fundamental. Some products that increase saliva production and can eliminate mouth germs will also be advantageous.
