Lee Greif - Volunteering

Friday, September 26th, 2008

Volunteering is nothing new for Mr. Grief. By giving his time to both fundraise and volunteer for multiple companies, foundations, charities, and services, Lee Greif has shown a running track record of hard work and help. With his help, many companies and organizations that touch multiple different lives have been helped. Grief has helped everything from his religion to the medical field, and for nearly everything in between, helping the entire community and greater Kansas City area along the way.

Mr. Grief has served on the Board of Directors and as the Vice President of the congregation for his temple, the Temple B’Nai Jehudah. The temple serves nearly 1,800 families. Not only has Mr. Grief helped the temple fundraise, but has helped on various committees.

Mr. Grief has also continued his work in the Jewish community with the help for the Jewish Community Campus. Mr. Grief served on two committees during a six year period, helping the organization raise $10 million for the actual Jewish Community Campus itself; the money was part of a donation and fundraising process that help build the building and start the campus process. Mr. Grief has also helped the Jewish Federation of Kansas City as far as money is concerned; Grief chaired the budget committee and donated both time and money to help the fundraising efforts of the organization.

Mr. Grief has not only helped the Jewish community, but the community in general around the Kansas City Area. Channel 19 is the local public television station that Mr. Grief has volunteered both his time and money for. Once serving on the Board of Directors, as an Officer of the Corporation as the Secretary, and as a member of the Executive Committee, Mr. Grief helped to develop children’s programming for the station. He also helped it develop entrepreneurial programs for the station, and helped with the fundraising for the organization.

The medical field of Kansas City and the greater Kansas City Area has also felt the affects of Mr. Grief’s volunteer work. Grief was the director of one of the 13 not-for-profit hospitals that cover the greater Kansas City area. He also served as a member of an executive committee that helped set policies for the organization and the entire 13 hospital group as well.

The Learning Exchange of Greater Kansas City has also felt the volunteer work of Mr. Grief. Serving as a chairman of the organization, Mr. Grief helped guide the company through its early development. This organization helps to, among other things, develop programs to benefit children in the multiple school districts in the area. Mr. Grief was also the director for the center for Management Assistance. This organization helped provide management assistance for non-profit organizations.

Lee Greif works often to help organizations that need fundraising help. As a Chairman of the Investment Committee for the Jewish Community Foundation, he offered help as a financial advisor, one of the tools to his vast amount of volunteer work.

Lee Greif - First entered the realm real of politics in 1971

Thursday, September 25th, 2008

After being class President of his class for four years in college at The University of Connecticut, and ultimately serving as Student body president, Lee Greif first entered the realm real of politics in 1971 when he was hired by Republican Congressman of New York, Peter Peyser. During this time, he served during the Watergate scandal which meant that he had to defend many sordid unpopular polices that were put into place by both his superiors and President Richard Nixon himself. Even though there were difficulties, there were many more memorable moments that Greif will always remember fondly. These include a dinner at the Whitehouse with the President of the US, top secret meetings with Secretaries Of State and Defense, and most importantly his meeting Randee, his first wife.

Even though he loved his work in politics with a passion, it had always been his dream to establish his own law practice. Ever since having received his degree in law, he had been eager to begin practicing it. However, his opportunity to enter politics could not be ignored. In 1974, the time had finally come to leave the political realm that he was so used to and move back up to his home state of Connecticut to practice law. What was to be a long and successful career in law was cut short however when his father in law unexpectedly took sick. Due to his illness he was required to have heart surgery which would require a long time to recover if he was lucky. Being thus afflicted he was in no way capable of running the family clothing business which had existed for decades.

Greif was faced with a very difficult choice, he could continue to pursue his long-awaited career as a lawyer, or he could put his dreams on hold and keep the family clothing business from going under. His conscience got the better of him and he decided to become the CEO of the family clothing business, but only on a temporary basis until his father in law had recovered to the point where he could once again take over. The business was a somewhat large chain of clothing stores that had existed since 1881 and was very well known throughout the area. Ever since it was established it had been successful and had gained notoriety throughout the area.

Lee Greif had never taken up any task before half-heartedly and found no reason to end that now. He decided to put all he had into the business so that when his father in law had finally recovered enough to regain control it would be bigger and better than ever before. Because of the long time needed to recover from the heart surgery, his father provided him with all the time he needed to enact his plans. Greif had learned a lot from college and the solid real world experience he learned from his five years in politics and he put all of this knowledge into use when he took over the business. He ran the business for a total of 4 years and by the time he was finished the chain of stores had grown from five stores to 11. He enjoyed running the business thoroughly, especially all of the people he met and relationships he built while doing so.

Lee Greif’s Five Years in Washington DC

Thursday, September 25th, 2008

Lee Greif spent an exciting five years working in Washington as the chief of staff for Peter Peyser, a recently elected congressman of New York. Peyser was a republican that represented the suburban county of Westchester in New York. He had just defeated Daddario in the gubernatorial race and hired Lee Greif to be his chief of staff. Peyser was a moderate republican who would later go on to run as a democrat in later elections. Grief performed many sordid duties while employed by Peyser who was always impressed with his hard work and dedication. While he worked for Peyser he had many achievements, but none could hold a candle to the fact that he successfully ran two campaigns which got Peyser reelected.

Peter Peyser was a very successful politician who worked closely with Nelson Rockefeller. In fact, the two of them were very close friends. Because of the close political ties in which the two shared, Peyser would often have many exciting and special projects for Lee to work on. They were difficult yes, but the large amount of prestige which they carried overshadowed the hard work in which they entailed.

During the time period that he served as chief of staff for Peter Peyser, the Watergate scandal took place. This made Lee Greif’s five years in Washington an exciting time indeed. There were many events that happened to Lee during this time that he still remembers fondly. One such experience was when he, Peyser, and three other congressmen and their chiefs of staff all ate dinner at the Whitehouse with the President, Richard M. Nixon. Besides this event were the many meetings that were held with Secretaries Of Defense and Secretaries Of State which were always an interesting and educating experience.

Working in Washington during this difficult period however, meant that he had to work with a Democrat during the war in Vietnam and a Republican during the Watergate debacle. As a result, he was often put at odds with his fellow politicians and would have to support positions that were unpopular with the public as well. Many of these policies came from the president himself who was disliked by many people at the time.

One of the brighter times of his five year political career in Washington was meeting his first wife, Randee. When they met, Randee was a member of US Senator Thomas Eagleton’s staff. Eagleton and Greif hit things off well and Eagleton became a major supporter of his throughout his political career. Besides this, they became close friends and Eagleton always supplied him with a healthy dose of inspiration. Eagleton was a democrat from Missouri at the time, but that didn’t interfere with the political relationship of the two. Altogether, the time that Lee Greif would spend in Washington serving as Peter Peyser’s chief of staff was an amazing and exciting experience. Greif would learn a lot during this period and he carried this wisdom with him throughout the years to aid him in all of his future endeavors.

Lee Greif has engaged himself in numerous careers throughout his lifetime after graduating from the University of Connecticut with honors and as Student body President.

He first entered the political arena during the early 1970s when he was hired by republican congressman Peter Peyser as his chief of staff. He held numerous responsibilities in this field from which he learned some important life lessons. He carried away some fond memories such as having dinner with President Nixon. It was also during this time that he married his first wife, Randee. He left the political arena in 1974 having planned to begin his law practice. Instead, he chose to become CEO of his father in law’s clothing business after he suddenly became ill and needed heart surgery.

Having served as CEO for four years, he was finally able to step down and pursue other career fields. Instead of pursuing law, he instead decided that he had been so successful running his father in law’s business that he should invest in some business ventures of his own. He sold some extra property that he had and invested it in other commercial ventures. Altogether he invested in a total of four business ventures. The first business venture that he invested in was a company that bought and leased commercial buildings. He would lease the buildings to schools, banks, and other businesses that needed extra space on a temporary basis..

The next business that he bought was Field Force Media Services. He purchased this business in 2003. It is an interesting business that Greif is pleased to have as part of his portfolio. Christmas Tree or Holiday Tree?

Tuesday, August 5th, 2008

As millions of Americans prepare for the holidays, I would like to raise a question on the principle of which is an appropriate term for a decorated Tree in December, is it right to name it Christmas Tree or Holiday Tree? We wanted to make a deal on this central issue so that everyone will be heard. Events such as a world known decorated spruce that sits on Capitol grounds during December, which has been referred to as the “holiday tree” for the past several years, was motioned in 2005 to be renamed in as Christmas Tree.

However many objected on the said motion, because of religious connection of the word Christmas. It would certainly take a bad toll to those who are not Christians. “I think that it’s inappropriate that the name was changed to Christmas tree,” said one person interviewed by ABC News.

We are baffled by the sincerity of the issue alone and we must deal it with sensitivity. It is also the same with Christmas Cards and Holiday Cards. We are advise to send Christmas Cards to people who practice Christianity and Holiday Cards for people who are not Christians or people who are not even celebrating Christmas. It is okay to for them to be greeted with this kind of esteem, “Holiday Cards”.

Some People Learning Guitar Chords Go By Sound

Friday, July 25th, 2008

Those playing can’t wait until they can do a whole song, and if they can do one with just a few guitar cords, they are going to stick with it. These songs will be simple, but they are also fun, and will give the student a huge rush of accomplishment. There are more offbeat guitar cords will come after the basics are mastered. As cords for the guitar are added, new songs to play open up. Some students will learn on their own, but it is not something all can do. Some can listen to a song and figure out how to play the guitar cords on their own. Don’t feel as if you are less talented if you can’t do this, as each person learns at a different pace…
