Children with ADHD

Filed under: Children, Family, Health, Medical, Parenting — dman @ 6:51 pm

People tend to easily lose patience with ADHD children as well as adults. It’s just that they are so well-adjusted in every other way, so obviously intelligent, and so capable, that any problem is easily chalked up to a bad attitude. “Couldn’t they just concentrate if they tried”, people wonder. Could they not be less flaky and unreliable? That really isn’t very kind; ADHD children aren’t really this way by choice – ADHD happens to be based in the brain in a very fundamental way over which they have no control. Adults with this problem, often frustrated with their lot are tempted to find someone to blame. ADHD runs in families usually, and an impatient parenting style can easily attract all the blame. As it happens though, no kind of parenting style actually causes ADHD; some kinds might aggravate it though.

“Online diagnose”
But there is no need to worry with a conspiracy theory at this point; the medical community is as prone to overreaction as any other. Once this relatively new disease is properly established, there will undoubtedly be a proper protocol that will be followed on how to prescribe, and information on how to cope with ADHD will be more common. For now, plenty of Internet quizzes exist that’ll help you diagnose yourself for a condition. You can’t just say to yourself, “Oh I have trouble concentrating, I’m impatient and can’t sit tight – I must have ADHD”. It might well be, that you’re just more intelligence than most, and get impatient with unchallenging situations.

Coping with Anxiety

Filed under: Health, Medical, Wellness — dman @ 10:58 am

Coping with anxiety is a difficult and frustrating problem. Here are some rock solid tips to getting back on track.

Living in today’s hectic world is enough to produce anxiety in the most mellow of souls. People who tend to be nervous and the worrying sort are far more vulnerable to anxiety. Even when things are going just fine, we can always find a situation that invites stress and worry. Some of us are just prone to anxious feelings. If you’re that type, you know that coping with anxiety is no fun at all.

Anxiety is a natural product of the flight or fight syndrome. When you feel there is some threat or imminent danger, your body responds with a rush of adrenalin to meet the challenge. However, with all the real worries each of us has to deal with every day, it’s easy to get caught up in a vicious circle of anxiety. While it’s unfortunate that we must endure problems our grandparents didn’t experience on an hourly or daily basis, coping with anxiety is a reality. In today’s world, it’s necessary to come up with solutions that free us from the chronic anxiety syndrome. Here we’ve got some answers:

  • Keep a little notebook in which to jot down notes of what types of situations get your adrenalin racing
  • Once you’ve determined the main sources of your anxiety, you can start eliminating such situations
  • Accept that you can only do your best
  • Accept that you can only change what you are in control of, which is YOU
  • Seek help, from family, friends, and professional counseling.

Coping with anxiety is difficult, but doable. It’s a matter of identifying, refocusing and changing ingrained habits that trigger your anxiety.

Uses For Ultrasound Imaging

Filed under: Health, Medical, News and Events — amenbiz @ 6:45 am

In the medical profession, a couple of medical devices are often used as compared to others. Some are extremely specialized, and others have multiple uses. One device that is widely used in many different areas of medicine is ultrasound. It is valuable in helping doctors locate and treat illnesses and just in monitoring what is going on in the body.

Ultrasound imaging works by sending high frequency sound waves into a body. These waves bounce off of whatever is inside, and those reflections are transferred into an image on the monitor. This is a very safe method of internal viewing, when compared with other methods such as x-ray. It is safe enough to be used on fetuses in the womb, and this is one of the very important uses of ultrasounds.

The sound waves are transmitted directly, and a 2 dimensional picture of image will be captured. 3D ultrasounds can also be done, but in these, the waves are sent down at different angles and the images are combined to create the 3D effect. 4D ultrasound is when these images are recorded in rapid succession and play together to show movement of the fetus.

Need To Stop Stuttering or Stammering?

Filed under: Children, Health, Medical, News and Events — amenbiz @ 6:45 am

Everyone has their own personal challenges. For some it is their finances or health, for others it is stuttering. Stuttering is a speech disorder also known as stammering that 1% of adults suffer from. Most everyone knows what this is, but understanding all that goes along with it for the stutterer is something most people are ignorant of.

Very often a lot of anxiety is associated with stuttering. This may be in part because of the social stigma and the popular conception that stuttering is associated with lower intelligence. This idea is absolutely not true, but knowing many people feel this way can cause a stutterer to be anxious and actually increase the problem.

Any individual who stutters would wonder what can be done to help them stop stuttering. There is certainly no magic cure. You can’t just turn off the stuttering, unfortunately, but it is possible to find ways to decrease the frequency with which you stutter and find tricks to make it less stressful and noticeable.

Do You Have A Rotator Cuff Injury?

Filed under: Health, Medical, News and Events — amenbiz @ 6:43 am

Our bodies are complex machines full of moving parts working together to give us a range of movements to do virtually anything we want to in our daily activities and exercises. The body works well almost all the time, which is a miracle, considering how many things could go wrong, but of course sometimes something does go wrong.

The shoulder includes bones, muscles and tendons. At the point where the clavicle, scapula and humerous bones meet there are four muscles and various tendons that hold those bones in place and make it possible to move your arms in almost any direction without it popping out of socket or other damage being done.

The rotator cuff is the system of muscles and tendons functioning in the shoulder area. They have a very important job, as we use our arms in so many ways every day. They are not particularly strong muscles, but normally can meet the demands we place on them.

However, meeting the demands we place on them isn’t always true as a rotator cuff injury is fairly common, most especially for athletes who are stretching and working the body to its limits. However, rotator cuff injuries are quite normal in less active people as well.

Orthopedic Sports Medicine Is For Everyone

Filed under: Health, Medical, News and Events, Shopping, Sports — amenbiz @ 3:48 pm

Each one of us sometime or the other would need to pay a visit to the doctor to have a total body medical check up. Medicine is divided into many different branches to keep various divisions specialized in order to ensure that as much as possible can be done for specific problems. Orthopedic medicine is the branch that is concerned with musculoskeletal problems. This is generally done without the use of too much fancy equipment but rather utilizes more of a hands-on approach.

The goal of orthopedic medicine is to diagnose and treat problems within the moving parts of the body. Those working in orthopedic jobs need to have as much medical schooling as most doctors. They have the four years of undergraduate study and four years of medical school. After this, they have a residency. This includes one year of general surgery training and then four years of orthopedic surgery.
