Practical Tips in Cleaning Your Vinyl Records

Filed under: Entertainment, Music, Shopping — Belinda Summers @ 3:08 pm
It is not easy to look at vinyl records when it comes to its preservation. A lot of people will tell you about how hard it is to clean them or how difficult it is to keep them in good shape. Cleaning vinyl records is practically very simple. Actually, there is no sweat to try keeping your records. Just start with an assessment. Take a look at your records. See if there are dust particles around the surface of the black discs. See if there are scratches. It is better to check the needle of your turn table, because a broken needle will damage your records.

See if there are scratches, if there are dusts make use of a clean cloth then if you bought a cleaning solution then follow the instructions. Be sure to follow the path of the grooves when wiping. Actually make use of your eyes in following the path of the records when cleaning them. Remember, vinyls are very much allergic to sun’s rays. So it is better to clean inside your house. Avoid bringing the records back to their respective sleeves. Air dry them first after using a liquid vinyl cleaning solution. If you wanted to clean the covers, better use a dry cloth in cleaning them.

Take note, you should store your vinyl records in a dust free and not so hot storage place otherwise you will really see them suffering from dust or will just undergo a meltdown. Hench, if you really wanted them to stay longer, better keep them safe and well taken cared for.

5 Tips For Independent Music Stores to Survive

Filed under: Business, Entertainment, Money, Music — Belinda Summers @ 7:21 am
One of the greatest problems of small records owners is that they had been attacked deliberately by huge music corporations in the form of internet and IPods. The Internet music sales are largely blamed on the decline of the sales of compact discs and even music pirates had been contributing to the brisk sales. According to the Recording Industry Association of America, CD sales fell 11.7 percent in 2007.

The core trend right now is that people are no longer having fun on buying albums. They put more focus on single music.

“It’s changed everything-the way the younger generation listens to music,” he said. Teenagers don’t want to own an entire album, he said. Instead, they want track number 3, and lose out on the opportunity to find songs they may enjoy even more. “There’s something else on that album that you discover.” , described in a frown voice by Mr. Madison.

Competing with huge fishes is really hard these days as he testifies on it.

He also said that industry changes are killing jazz and classical music. “How can we kill classical music in our lifetimes?” he lamented.

But the story is not bad after all because vinyl records are coming back to save them from utter out of business or extinction.

“Rock, folk, and country music lovers are the once who fastidiously buy vinyl discs”, he said with jest.
Right now, what is happening on independent music store is not all so gloomy they had been save by vinyl records for most of the turn. If you are a small record store selling music on a nearby neighborhood, here are the tips to consider for your survival.

1. Think that Business is always evolving. What is permanent is change and you have no power to say that you will still be business as usual. In order to survive you must be able to look for the “alternative”.

2. Know thy enemy. If your enemies are big corporations chances are you are there for a fight among the Davids versus the Goliaths. Refrain from matching them from head to toe but be versatile in giving them the punch. Such that you can’t download vinyl records over the internet. So your course should be to go online and sell your vinyl discs.

3. To add more sales try to network with other people to expand yell out that you and your business exists.

4. Follow up your customers. Neglecting a note just to follow them up is bad for your business. Better to create a follow up notice on them about your latest additional wares to sell. People are busy and it is your job to follow them up.

5. Research. Better to go on with the pace than being stagnant. Learn the ways of the internet and sell online. Through this method, you can really sell your wares like hot pancakes because internet is worldwide and your online store is available 24/7.

The long haul will be good for you and your business, just be creative and persevering.
