Here;s a piece of valuable advice for folks looking to do a few home improvements on the cheap. Beware of Cheap Wood Floors! Oh they might look nice in the display area of your local hardware or DIY store, but that’s for 2 reasons. 1) they haven’t experienced any wear & tear yet! This is just as well because they don’t stay looking fresh for long once the family starts to run across, drop and spill food, beverages, and other substances onto their fragile surfaces. And 2) There is nothing to compare them with. If you were to put a display floor next to the cheapo surface, it would be so obvious which one was quality. Looks better, feels better, lasts longer, and won’t need replacing for years to come.
Although it’s tempting to go shopping for cheap wooden or wood lookalike floors, it really is a false economy in the long term. Now that doesn’t mean you won’t find some great floor products at affordable prices, because there are often discount sales held on quality woods, but beware the difference between discount and cheap. Cheap is always cheap and for good reason, whereas discount used to be costly but has been reduced for reasons such as seasonal or closing down sales, or to make way for new stock. Make your wood floor a home improvement not a home deterioration project. Real natural hardwoods really do last and bring beauty into your living spaces.
