Children with ADHD

Filed under: Children, Family, Health, Medical, Parenting — dman @ 6:51 pm

People tend to easily lose patience with ADHD children as well as adults. It’s just that they are so well-adjusted in every other way, so obviously intelligent, and so capable, that any problem is easily chalked up to a bad attitude. “Couldn’t they just concentrate if they tried”, people wonder. Could they not be less flaky and unreliable? That really isn’t very kind; ADHD children aren’t really this way by choice – ADHD happens to be based in the brain in a very fundamental way over which they have no control. Adults with this problem, often frustrated with their lot are tempted to find someone to blame. ADHD runs in families usually, and an impatient parenting style can easily attract all the blame. As it happens though, no kind of parenting style actually causes ADHD; some kinds might aggravate it though.

“Online diagnose”
But there is no need to worry with a conspiracy theory at this point; the medical community is as prone to overreaction as any other. Once this relatively new disease is properly established, there will undoubtedly be a proper protocol that will be followed on how to prescribe, and information on how to cope with ADHD will be more common. For now, plenty of Internet quizzes exist that’ll help you diagnose yourself for a condition. You can’t just say to yourself, “Oh I have trouble concentrating, I’m impatient and can’t sit tight – I must have ADHD”. It might well be, that you’re just more intelligence than most, and get impatient with unchallenging situations.

What Does the First Year of Professional Speaking Look Like?

Unless you’re already a celebrity, you’ll have to work through building your professional speaking career from the ground up. This does mean work, but if the topics you plan to be speaking on are your passion, this will not be a chore to do! Also, depending upon how fast you are able to build connections and establish your reputation as a speaker will determine how fast you pass through this phase of career building.

The first phase of building your career is filled with getting the word out that you are available for hire as a professional speaker. You’ll also gain experience as you speak for free. Yes, that’s right – free. Your goal is build a database of clients and testimonials concerning your work before you hit the big time. One resource stated that you should plan on speaking for free for at least 200 hundred times to build a successful reputation and foundation of experience. The reason for all of this is that many speaker bureaus and meeting planners want speakers with experience and an established reputation in the field they’re in. As of now, you are working on creating your future success!

Here are some things you can do as you begin your professional speaking career.

1) List the topics you can speak on. Join a social network like LinkedIn (known as the social network for professionals) or forum and list those topics there.

2) Write some articles on these topics and post them on the free article websites. You can also post articles on your own website and add them to social bookmark sites. Whoever reads your article will see your bio at the bottom of each article and you’ll promote yourself as a speaker for these topics!

3) Get as many free speaking engagements as possible. Check with your local library or the Chamber of Commerce. Get feedback from your free speaking engagements and start compiling a list of these.

4) Take a professional picture of yourself. People want to feel connected to you and personalizing your website by adding your picture to it is just one of the ways. Additionally, you’ll need a professional photo for your portfolio

5) If you’re an expert in a trade, write articles for your industry’s trade publications. Sometimes these publications will ask for a short (1-2 sentence bio) where you can list “professional speaker” as part of your career listing. One benefit is that you can also get paid writing.

6) Get online and create a blog or website about the topics that you cover. Utilize social networking to build relationships with potential clients as well as peers in your industry. Promote yourself as a professional speaker and a thought leader in your industry.

7) Add a tagline to your email signature. Whoever gets your emails will see that you are a professional speaker for hire.

8) Research the industry for pay rates and start developing a fee schedule for your speaking engagements. We mentioned earlier that you should expect to speak for free, however, speaking for free could easily turn into a paying job for you. What would you charge?

9) Create a demo video of a speaking event you’ve done. You can use clips from several of your speaking jobs (including the free ones).

During this first phase, you’re basically building your professional speaking portfolio. You’ll need this portfolio to go after higher paying jobs with speaker bureaus and meeting planners. You’re already working towards your future success!

Shopping for Remote Ceiling Fans in 2010

Filed under: Furniture, Home, Shopping, Wireless — kimbo @ 3:57 am

Fed up with getting in and our of your seat to control the air wafts of your ceiling fan? Well, just as most other household appliances now come with remote control devices, you may now be pleased to know that Shopping for Remote Ceiling Fans is possible, or should that be remote controlled ceiling fans? Anyway, the point is that you can speed up, slow down, select waft options, and all that other jazz, from the comfort of your favourite armchair or sofa. Not that men are that bothered about remote controlled devices, but women just love them, and idle teens couldn’t imaging a life without remote controls and robots doing their stuff for them. A word of warning though, just before you rush out and replace your wall switch fans with remote controlled options. If you have low ceilings, the remote might not be such a great idea for your or as a gift for others with low ceilings. Why? Well, if the cat sits on the remote, or someone lays on it or operates it without thinking, then the poor passerby might lose their head to the speeding blades that were as still as a photograph just moments ago! infochampion

Coping with Anxiety

Filed under: Health, Medical, Wellness — dman @ 10:58 am

Coping with anxiety is a difficult and frustrating problem. Here are some rock solid tips to getting back on track.

Living in today’s hectic world is enough to produce anxiety in the most mellow of souls. People who tend to be nervous and the worrying sort are far more vulnerable to anxiety. Even when things are going just fine, we can always find a situation that invites stress and worry. Some of us are just prone to anxious feelings. If you’re that type, you know that coping with anxiety is no fun at all.

Anxiety is a natural product of the flight or fight syndrome. When you feel there is some threat or imminent danger, your body responds with a rush of adrenalin to meet the challenge. However, with all the real worries each of us has to deal with every day, it’s easy to get caught up in a vicious circle of anxiety. While it’s unfortunate that we must endure problems our grandparents didn’t experience on an hourly or daily basis, coping with anxiety is a reality. In today’s world, it’s necessary to come up with solutions that free us from the chronic anxiety syndrome. Here we’ve got some answers:

  • Keep a little notebook in which to jot down notes of what types of situations get your adrenalin racing
  • Once you’ve determined the main sources of your anxiety, you can start eliminating such situations
  • Accept that you can only do your best
  • Accept that you can only change what you are in control of, which is YOU
  • Seek help, from family, friends, and professional counseling.

Coping with anxiety is difficult, but doable. It’s a matter of identifying, refocusing and changing ingrained habits that trigger your anxiety.

This Autumn Winter’s Theatre is The Greatest Yet

Filed under: Entertainment, News and Events — information @ 5:51 pm

With the lovely summer period now well and truly over and autumn showers to look forward to, lots of Londoners and tourists turn to amazing entertainment to brighten up their raining and cold months. A theatrical show that particularly has taken Londoners and tourists by storm over the last couple of years is the magnificent Wicked. Based upon the well known Wizard of Oz novel, Wicked flips the original tale on its head and tells the history of the two good and bad witches and how they met. Squeezed full of breathtaking show songs and a funny script, the theatre production Wicked has gained multiple awards and won the hearts of multiple Londoners and tourists.

For those that like a theatre show that they can really clap and tap away to must see Stomp. Stomp is wonderful and crammed full of energy. It first was born back in the 1980s as a very small show in Brighton and grew larger year after year until it hit worldwide success. During the theatrical show you will note the cast playing everyday items to develop a musical masterpiece, normal items include cutlery and kitchen sinks. Although this is a musical, there is actually zero singing or script, having said this you can easily get the feel of the Stomp characters through music.

Having recently adapted in the last few months to a theatre version, the super Shawshank Redemption has arrived in London. The show production tells the story of Andy arriving at a prison after being found guilty of brutally killing his wife after she had an affair with another guy. As a well educated guy, Andy is very different from the average inmates and offers to assist a warden with his taxes. With this prison warden on his side he becomes the guards accountant. The theatre version has a gritty feeling and comes across particularly real to the captivated theatre lovers. The fighting scenes are magnificent, the stage set is very realistic and the delivery of the acting is also superb.

With tons going on in fun London, you are sure to watch the perfect musical this winter. Find Dirty Dancing Tickets online and love hearing “nobody puts Baby in the corner”.
